cPanel Changes and You
For those of you hosting with GeekArtist Web Solutions, this is important information. cPanel has come out with a major release so a few changes have been implemented on the server.
cPanel is the control panel you use to log into your website and mange aspects such as adding email addresses, domains, and so on.
Long story short: if you have bookmarked an internal page within your cPanel account and are trying to get in that way…you can’t. This has been changed for security purposes. From here on, to be able to access cPanel you
1. must have cookies turned on
2. access it via something like this: http://www.yourdomainname.com/cPanel
If you are checking your email via webmail, the address remains the same so you can access it via http://www.yourdomainname.com/webmail.
But again: cookies must be turned on.
However, if you are having problems getting in, check your firewall settings and make sure the following ports are unblocked:
cPanel: 2083
Webmail: 2096
Some of you may be checking webmail from work. If your employer blocks 2096 your can talk to your IT department about allowing access on that port. If that is not an option, then you’ll need to wait until you get home.
In other cPanel news, your database and mailman lists now count to your total allotted storage space. So if you check your current disk usage and notice an increase, that is why. If you are using significantly more space after factoring those in, you’ll need to move up a level in hosting packages so you have one that allows more space.
I understand some of these measures may inconvenience a few. I’m sorry, but I have zero ability to change these things. Even if I did, I wouldn’t as this improved security means safer websites for you and everyone else.
